Air
Air is a music duo from Versailles, France, consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. The name Air is a backronym for Amour, Imagination, Rêve[1] which translates to Love, Imagination, Dream
Air's music is often referred to as electronica; their form of electronic music was influenced by the synthesizer sounds of the 1970s such as Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Francis Lai. Other influences include psychedelic rock pioneers Pink Floyd; krautrockers Tangerine Dream; early pioneers of the eurodance electronica subgenre Space ; Jean-Jacques Perrey (although there are some echoes of dance music styles in the production); and French crooner Serge Gainsbourg.

Air use many of their studio instruments (like Moog synthesizers, the Korg MS-20, Wurlitzer and Vocoder) live on stage, where their ability to improvise is more clearly highlighted. The band performs the well-known tracks from the albums live as extended or altered versions. Air often works together, both in the studio and live on stage, with artists like Beth Hirsch (Moon Safari), Françoise Hardy ("Jeanne"), Jean-Jacques Perrey ("Cosmic Bird"), Gordon Tracks ("Playground Love" and "Easy Going Woman" - Gordon Tracks is a pseudonym of the French singer Thomas Mars from Phoenix), Beck (10 000 Hz Legend), on the 2004 tour with Dave Palmer and on the 2007 tour with drummer Earl Harvin, Vincent Taurelle and Steve Jones.

Art of Noise, were an avant-garde synthpop group formed in 1983 by producer Trevor Horn, music journalist Paul Morley, and session musicians/studio hands Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik, and Gary Langan. The group's mostly instrumental compositions were novel melodic sound collages based on digital sampler technology, which was new at the time. Inspired by turn-of-the-century revolutions in music, the Art of Noise were initially packaged as a faceless anti- or non-group, blurring the distinction between the art and its creators. The band is noted for innovative use of electronics and computers in pop music and particularly for innovative use of sampling.
Samples—some borrowed from other pieces of music, but most coming from original sources—were bathed in reverb to mask the early sampler's low fidelity (or to give a "concert hall" acoustic effect). In the studio, these sounds were then assembled into various instrumental arrangements and sound collages. At first, this was done with very little input from musicians "playing" instruments as they would in a typical band, but later works introduced traditional instruments as well.

today - Yello
Yello is a Swiss electronica band consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank. They are probably best known for their singles "The Race" and "Oh Yeah", which feature a mix of electronic music and manipulated vocals, as does most of their music
The band was originally formed by Boris Blank (keyboards, sampling, percussion, backing vocals) and Carlos Perón (tapes) in the late 1970s. Dieter Meier (vocals, lyrics), a millionaire industrialist and gambler, was brought in when the two founders realised that they needed a singer. The new band name Yello was chosen as a pun based on a statement made by Dieter Meier: “a yelled Hello”.[1] Meier and Blank's first release was the 1979 single called "I.T. Splash". The LP Solid Pleasure, featuring the hit dance single "Bostich", was released in November 1980.
Yello's sound is mainly characterised by unusual music samples, a heavy reliance on rhythm and Dieter Meier's dark voice. Boris Blank has taken a couple of vocal turns; on "Swing" (from You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess) and "Blazing Saddles" (from Flag), and guest vocalists have included Rush Winters (the first female diva to be featured on a Yello recording), Billy MacKenzie, Stina Nordenstam, Jade Davies and Shirley Bassey. The group has shared writing credit with MacKenzie and Winters. Yello rarely uses samples from previously released music; nearly every instrument has been sampled and engineered by Boris Blank, who over the years has built up an original sample library of over 100,000 named and categorized sounds.

I`m sure you know this guy - maybe from Friday, maybe Anaconda, maybe from Three Kings...
but he goes waaay back...

O'Shea Jackson (born June 15, 1969), better known by his stage name Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, screenwriter, and producer. He began his career as a member of the rap group N.W.A along with group leader Eazy-E, and later launched a successful solo career in music and cinema.
Ice Cube was born O'Shea Jackson in South Central Los Angeles, California, where he was raised.
At age sixteen, Ice Cube developed an interest in hip hop music, and began writing raps in Taft High School's keyboarding class.[5] He attended the Phoenix Institute of Technology in the fall of 1987, and studied Architectural Drafting.[6] With friend Sir Jinx, Cube formed the C.I.A., and they performed at parties hosted by Dr. Dre. In an interview with well-known British broadsheet newspaper, The Guardian, Ice Cube stated that he is a Muslim, having converted sometime in the 1990s. [7]

Cube recorded his debut solo album in Los Angeles with the Bomb Squad (Public Enemy's production team). AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted was released in 1990 and was an instant hit, riding and contributing to the rising tide of rap's popularity in mainstream society. The album was charged with controversy, and Cube was accused of misogyny, and racism

Kraftwerk - probably the most sampled music band EVER!!!!

Kraftwerk were formed in 1970 by Florian Schneider (flutes, synthesisers, electro-violin) and Ralf Hütter (electronic organ, synthesisers).
Florian Schneider, one of the two original co-founders of the pioneering German electronic group Kraftwerk left on 21 November 2008. Commenting shortly after Schneider left the band, the Independent newspaper had this to say about Schneider's departure:

"There is something brilliantly Kraftwerkian about the news that Florian Schneider, a founder member of the German electronic pioneers, is leaving the band to pursue a solo career. Many successful bands break up after just a few years. It has apparently taken Schneider and his musical partner, Ralf Hütter, four decades to discover musical differences."

Ralf Hütter had also quit the band himself for a period of some months between the release of the Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk 2 albums (c.1970–1971) to finish his degree in architecture
The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western classical style of harmony, with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumentation.
All of Kraftwerk's albums from Trans-Europe Express onward have been recorded in separate versions: one with German vocals for sale in Germany, Switzerland and Austria and one with English vocals for the rest of the world, with occasional variations in other languages when conceptually appropriate

Shakatak scored a number of chart entries, including two Top Ten hits in the UK Singles Chart, "Night Birds" (1982) and "Down on the Street" (1984).
From their first release in August 1980, (the Bill Sharpe composition "Steppin'" on the Polydor record label), and their first album, Drivin' Hard, the band's singles and albums have entered the charts fairly regularly.
Two more albums – Invitations and Out of This World – were recorded in 1982 and 1983, resulting in several more chart hits, and paving the way for the next major breakthrough in the band's career. With a subtle change in musical direction, yet still retaining the band's identity, Jill Saward (formerly of Fusion Orchestra, Brandy and Citizen Gang) became their lead singer to make Shakatak's fifth album, Down on the Street. The resulting single releases "Down on the Street" and "Watching You" had some success, and brought them attention in new parts of the world. The following year saw the release of the group's first live album, which was recorded in both Tokyo and London.

However, following this success the band felt it was time that they re-directed their efforts back to singles, and an album for release to the rest of the world. The result was Something Special, closely followed by the night club and chart hit "Mr Manic & Sister Cool" from their next LP, Manic and Cool. In the 1990s the band had great success in the U.S. when they had two albums that went to No 1 in the contemporary jazz charts and were also awarded the Japanese grammy for best international instrumental album six years running. Since 2000 the band has continued to record and tour the world.

The Cool Notes were a mid 1980s pop group who had a string of chart hits in the UK between 1984 and 1986. The band, who formed in South London, consisted of seven members of both vocal and instrumental talent. They are best known for their UK number 11 hit, "Spend The Night". Freeez was a UK dance music group from London, initially known for its emergence as one of the UK's leading jazz-funk bands of the early 1980s. Founded by John Rocca, Freeez consisted of various musicians, originally with Rocca and other members such as Andy Stennet (keyboards, Peter Maas (bass) and Paul Morgan or Everton Mcalla (drums).

Freeez's first single, "Keep in Touch" (1980), included guitarist Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick, the founder of Incognito. Freeez is perhaps best remembered for its UK Top 10 hit "Southern Freeez", which included guest vocals by Ingrid Mansfield Allman. Much of the band's early work, including "Southern Freeez" became part of the jazz-funk scene in the UK, in the early 1980s[1] In the UK, the band was signed to the record label Beggars Banquet Records.[2]

The song "I.O.U.", written, produced and mixed by Arthur Baker, (then known for his work with New Order and Afrika Bambaataa), was also used on the 1980s breakdance movie, Beat Street. It spent two weeks at number one in the Billboard Dance chart[3] sandwiched between the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson and David Bowie, and was number 2 in the UK Singles Chart in the summer of 1983. It was followed by other releases from the album such as "Pop Goes My Love" / "Scratch Goes My Dub", which hit the U.S. Top 5. In 1987 a remix of "I.O.U." climbed back up to number 18 on the U.S. dance chart, plus number 23 in the UK Singles Chart.

Freeez reformed in 1984 without Rocca, or any of the other original members, apart fom Peter Maas. With a new sound and almost a new group altogether, Maas worked with Louis Smith who took over the duties of keyboard player, co-writer and programmer with Billy Crichton as songwriter and guitarist. The new Freeez then went on to record an album, Idle Vice (1985)

Hardcastle also remained active as a composer, writing original scores for several films and television projects, including a new theme song for the British TV series Top of the Pops and Spiceworld the movie.

In the 1990s Hardcastle reinvented himself musically and took another stab at forming his own label, Fast Forward Records, on which he released the single Swing under the name the Def Boys. That record eventually reached the Billboard Top five, and was a major hit in Europe.

The first step in this new career phase came in 1990, with the release of an album on Motown by his new group Kiss the Sky. Next, Hardcastle collaborated with his old cohort Helen Rogers and with saxophonist Gary Barnacle, who had recorded with the likes of Tina Turner, Elvis Costello, and Phil Collins, to form The Jazzmasters. The trio released the album Jazzmasters on the independent JVC label in 1993, and it quickly gained substantial airplay on both contemporary jazz and R&B radio stations. The video for one of the album's songs, Sound of Summer, also saw much exposure on VH-1. Jazzmasters eventually spent more than a year hovering near the top of the Contemporary Jazz Albums charts.

The 80s – think n’n’n’n’n’ nineteen (19), Rainforest and the synthesizer…

From his dance club hits of the mid-1980s through to his current popularity among adult contemporary jazz listeners, Hardcastle has maintained an intentionally low profile, while at the same time exhibiting a level of technical wizardry--both at the keyboard and at the studio console--that has produced numerous hits for himself and for others.

His love of sound equipment eventually led to a job as a stereo salesman. In 1980 Hardcastle acquired his first synthesizer. He quickly landed a spot as keyboard player for the band Direct Drive, effectively ending his career in sales. With Direct Drive, Hardcastle got his first taste of dance club success, scoring a handful of minor hits on the British underground dance scene Hardcastle joined forces with vocalist Derek Green to form the funk band First Light in 1982.

After watching Vietnam Requiem, a television documentary about the Vietnam War, Hardcastle was deeply moved by the fact that the average age of a U.S. soldier in that conflict was 19, compared to 26 during World War II. The program inspired him to create his biggest hit, 19, which made use of samples from the documentary's soundtrack, though well-doctored with all manner of electronic effects and scratch techniques. 19 rocketed to number one on the British charts, and also reached the top spot in 13 different countries selling 4 million copies

Hardcastle enjoyed several further hits in the UK, including "Don't Waste My Time" (with vocals by Carol Kenyon) (UK #8) and the now-classic "The Wizard", a UK #15 hit that became the theme tune from BBC Television's Top of the Pops. He also had a hit with "Just For Money", which reached #19 in the UK. Earlier, he had cut a cover version of D-Train's most influential hit "You're the One For Me", segued with his own compositions "Daybreak" and "A.M." Hardcastle also wrote the theme tune for Saturday Live, a popular entertainment show which ran from 1985-1987. He also made the hit single "the voyager", which was used for the BBC one program Holiday.

After 1986, Hardcastle started to specialise in television soundtracks and remix work, for artists as such as Five Star, Barry White, Third World, Sinitta, Johnny Logan, Hiroshima and Ian Dury.

Adeva (born Patricia Daniels in 1960) is a female African American house music and R&B artist from Paterson, New Jersey, United States, the youngest of six children. She had a string of succesfull hits in the late 80s to early 90s including "Warning" (#17), "I Thank You" (#17) and "Respect" (#17).

Noted for her powerful vocals, she released a house rendition of the Otis Redding hit "Respect" in 1989 that reached #17 in the UK and released her debut album ! in the same year. The album was released in the United States in 1990 via the major record label Capitol/EMI Records under license from Chrysalis Records in the UK, where she was signed originally. The album was a critical and commercial success in the UK and contained several hit singles including "Beautiful Love" and "Musical Freedom". "Respect" remains a favorite on Urban contemporary radio stations, especially in New York City to this day. She had a hit follow-up from the album, "I Thank You," which also reached #17.

Her second album, 1991's Love Or Lust? failed to chart in both the UK and the US despite featuring two hit singles, "Independent Woman" and "It Should Have Been Me."

Freestyle or Latin Freestyle, also called Latin Hip Hop in its early years, is a form of electronic music. Performers such as Sa-Fire, Information Society, Noel, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, TKA, George Lamond, and Exposé are notable performers of the genre. It continues to be produced today and enjoys some degree of popularity, especially in the urban Latino (Puerto Rican) and Italian-American community, as it did when it first came on to the scene. Another popular modern dance music genre, Florida breaks, evolved from this sound.

The music first developed primarily in New York City and Miami in the mid-1980s. It eventually spread to many other cities with Latin influences as in Hispanic and Italian populations. Initially, it was a fusion of the vocal styles found in 1970s disco music with the syncopated, synthetic instrumentation of 1980s electro, as favored by fans of breakdancing. Specifically, Freestyle's true roots is traced back to Soul Sonic Force's "Planet Rock" (1982) and Shannon's "Let the Music Play", which debuted in 1983. It was also influenced by sampling, as found in hip hop music.

Freestyle reached its peak in 1987 before it fell in popularity and was slowly replaced by burgeoning house music in 1988. "Silent Morning", composed by Noel (poster boy for Freestyle), hugely boosted Freestyle's popularity and brought it to the forefront of the international scene in 1987, expanding its potential.

Besides this DJS/producers I`ve been presenting, DMC was well known for mixes no matter what music style there was - as long as you can dance to that beats!

At the end of each year "best of" series was released on december issue. First "best of POP" "best of funk", later "best of rock" "best of hip-hop" "best of dance".
Aprox 10 - 20 minutes long, mixes were overwives of that year top chart hits that you could broadcast on radio or club without compromising timing shedule.

Alan Coulthartd - simple - without him, DMC label wouldn`t exsist!!!
He invented phrase such as "megamix" or "mix"! His first work were only megamixes and mixes made of chart hits.
Work for DMC till 1995 later under alias "The Judge".

Steve Anderson - the perfect example of the DMC system at work. DMC took Steve of some highly promising demo mixes at the tender age of 18. Besides of being a part in a duo "Brothers in rhythm" (with Dave Seaman), his solo work was often marked with adding a keyboard section played by himself or drums and percussion sounds.

One of the first UK DJs to trully come into his own as a producer via DMC, Mike has been a vital member of DMC since 1986. Mostly makes mixes and megamixes no matter what stlye of music it was. Over the years he worked under some alias: Greed, Hustlers covention, Route 66, Groove city.

Les "mixdoctor" Adams

Les "mixdoctor" Adams - worked for DMC in the early years, but he is in business for almost 30!! During the late 1980's and early 1990's while working as a DJ in London Les was signed as a recording artist to the A&M record label as 'LA Mix'.
Today he host radioshow on Solar radio.
Mostly, he made mixes of funk and dance tracks, preticulary "beat-on-beat" mixing.
Wanna know why they called him "mixdoctor" - here is a playlist with 5 mixes- I strongly recomend to listen to them all, you`ll get it!!

Swedish guy Sanny X began mixing early, back in 1979...he was DJ for DMC since beginnig, and his specialities were pop/rock stuff!!

Paul is one of the logest serving DMC producer and his reputation goes back to his weird and a bit twisted "Sigue Sigue Sputmix" from 1986!!!
Today he is a memeber of "Ministry of Sound" label, but his remixes and mixes for DMC will remain timeless.

DMC - disco mix club

Well, this was most important mixing club in the 80s...started in 1983, few DJs remixed and mixed stuff from top charts in a way nobody did before!
Soon they relese mixes on tapes...each month a new volume!!!

From 1984 their work was printed on vinyl!! First 1 LP, then 2!! By the end of 1989 3 LPs was released each month, availbale only to subsribed members - not sold in any music store!!
Soon a world DJ championship in London was organized. You should see all those skill guys, messing with turntables - all live performance!!!

From that time many DJs published their work...some names will be remembered forever: Ben Liebrand, Dakeyne, Dimitri, Steve Anderson, Les "mixdoctor" Adams, Sanny X, Bizzie Bee, duo The Commision...each work was a unique masterpiece of its own class.
and later I will present mixes from each and one of them!!

"Spacer" - who remembers this song...probably very few...but year 2000 swedish producer deside to stop years of silence and sampled melody from "Spacer" to "Crying at the discoteque"...result was remarkable...we got funky guitar from 80s with club beats from 90s!!!

8 years later I decide to make a tribute to both of these artists and make a medley...it is called: "Crying spacer"...check it out - and loud!!!
